Intramural Sports

One of the great aspects of being a brother is being able to participate in Intramural Sports with other members of Penn State Greek life. As a brotherhood, we actively participate in several IM sports available on a seasonal basis. Some of the most popular sports that we sign up for on a seasonal basis are football, soccer, volleyball, and softball.

During the off seasons, we go to West Soccer fields and play pick up soccer or football with other fraternities as a way to practice for the actual IM season. We compete against all other fraternities at Penn State in numerous sports. Competing with other fraternities is a way to build relationships among other members of the Greek community, an important component in Penn State Greek Life’s effort to achieve a strong sense of community among its members.

As a fraternity we take pride in our competitiveness as much as our good sportsmanship, even if we end up taking a loss. We believe that having an active brotherhood that participates in IM Sports is a great way to show our character as a fraternal organization. No matter what the season, our active brothers are always looking to play and try out new sports and to compete with fellow members of the Greek Community

Homecoming

The fall semester is an exciting time at Penn State. Beyond football Saturdays, Alpha Kappa Lambda has the opportunity to experience Homecoming in a hands-on way. As with other special events, our fraternity will pair with a sorority to compete in various events throughout the week. All Homecoming events, including the traditional parade, are a great opportunity to experience the unique offering Greek Life provides its members.

IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon (THON)

THON was first organized in 1973 by a group of students seeking an opportunity to give back to their community. This idea has since grown into the largest student-run philanthropy in the world: THON. Each year, more than 16,500 student volunteers participate in the year-long fundraising efforts to benefit our sole beneficiary, Four Diamonds at Penn State Children’s Hospital. The mission of the Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon is to conquer pediatric cancer by providing outstanding emotional and financial support to the children, families, researchers, and staff of the Four Diamonds Fund. Alpha Kappa Lambda is fortunate to be able to sponsor local children affected by this disease and represent them during the 46-hour, no sitting, no sleeping dance marathon happening each February.

Greek Week

Greek Week takes place in the spring and consists of various activities that promote unity across all Penn State Greek organizations. These activities and events emphasize the positive facets of the Greek community, while building meaningful relationships between participants and with the greater Penn State and State College communities. Some of the most popular Greek Week traditions include talent shows, sports tournaments, fundraisers, canned food drives and a block party at the end of the week.
